“It is good if we are attacked by the enemy, since it proves that we have drawn a clear line of demarcation between the enemy and ourselves. It is still better if the enemy attacks us wildly and paints us as utterly black and without a single virtue; it demonstrates that we have not only drawn a clear line of demarcation between the enemy and ourselves but achieved a great deal in our work 1 .” – Mao Zedong

Recently the Brahminical-Fascist US-Modi regime though it’s Delhi Special Cell (a “counter terror” police force) detained without reason 11 activists from the mass movement in that country. These arrests all targeted at activists in their early 20s reflects the desperation of the Modi government as they approach their self imposed deadline of a “Maoist free India” of the end of March. This goal is one which has failed to happen many times in the past in India. The Indian state’s goal will never be met as long as there remains oppression in the country. Additionally, it shows their fear in response to the Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization (FACAM)’s international call to observe an anti-imperialist week from the 23rd to 31st of which these comrades were actively involved with carrying out in their Delhi.

The comrades taken by the police were Shiv Kumar (member of Mazdoor Adhikar Sangathan), Manjeet (President of Mazdoor Adhikar Sangathan), Ilakkiya (member of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch), Dristy (member of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch), Kiran (political activist), Akshay (member of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch), Aman (friend of Manjeet), Gaurav (member of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch), Ehtmam (anti-displacement activist), Lakshita and Rudra (editor of Nazariya Magazine).

All were kept in horrendous conditions, tortured, and sexually assaulted. The police attempted, to force the activists to confirm their bogus theories that the organizations they are members of, are actually “front groups” for the Communist Party of India (Maoist). Before they would be released they were forced to sign blank charge sheets which can be filled in later at the whim of the Indian old state. It should be noted that most of these activists have been arrested, and tortured, before by the Indian police and yet bravely constitute to keep the line of revolutionary struggle alive in a time when opportunism is fiercely attacking their just struggle against repression.

We, the Anti-Imperialist Front (USA) Coordinating Committee, all organizations assembled under it, and all their members extend a firm salute to these comrades for their heroic principled stance and demand:

1. An immediate impartial investigation into these crimes and punishment meted out to all who were responsible for them

2. An end to the harassment of activists across all of India and the right to assemble, organize, and speak upheld.

3. All the personal belongings stolen from the comrades by the Indian old state to be returned immediately and untampered with.

4. The removal of all troops from the tribal areas of central India, a cause which these comrades have, among others, bravely fought for and which makes the Indian old state so incensed.

Hands off People’s Activists!

Down with Operation Kagar!

Down with the Surajkund Scheme!

Oppose Imperialist Loot!

Long live International Solidarity!
