Long Live the People’s War in India!

In the India the Communist Party of India (Maoist) [CPI(m)] is leading a heroic People’s War against the fascist Indian regime. The Indian government is responsible for the massacre of thousands of
peasants in the Maoist controlled areas, with drones, helicopters supplied by US imperialism and its lackeys like Israel. All of this repression is currently being intensified in the genocidal ‘Operation
Kagar’ (meaning final war). However these bloodthirsty attacks are condemned to failure.
These attacks are condemned to failure because the CPI(m) has the support of the Indian masses, the poor peasantry, the urban poor, the workers, and the indigenous Adivasi people in the forested regions. The Adivasi are tribes who have historic claims to the land and are considered “backward” by the oppressive caste system in India. The People’s War in India fights to liberate the poor and landless peasants by seizing land from the big landlords, to free the workers from the shackles of wage slavery, to emancipate women from the patriarchal bonds, and to defend the rights of minority nationalities and the oppressed castes. This is accomplished by seizing and defending bases of new power as embryos constructing the new society conquered within the old, liberating millions in the process of democratic revolution.
The People’s War led by the CPI (m) is an inspiration to the international working class. The revolutionaries in India have persisted in their fight for working class power despite many attempts by the Indian state to eradicate them. The Indian government has never been able to defeat the Maoists, since the Maoists have the support of the people, and are driven by anunwavering conviction that the people will inevitably triumph in revolution. The Indian government has conducted dozens of operations throughout the 58 years since the beginning of the People’s War, all of which have failed, and only caused more death and destruction for the poor masses, and humiliation for the Indian government. The Maoists have persisted in their struggle throughout these decades following the road of revolution despite the setbacks they’ve faced and the thousands who have been martyred in service of the revolution.
Recently, in May of 2025 the leader of the CPI (m), Comrade Basavaraj was martyred in a brutal battle, along with 27 other people’s fighters as part of the genocidal ‘Operation Kagar’. Basavaraj lead the Maoists through many battles and processes of expansion and consolidation of the revolutionary forces. He refusedto give up and he fought until his last breath in battle, where dozens of fascist soldiers died. The Indian government had hoped that the killing of this important leader would lead to the destruction of the People’s War, claiming that it would be over by February of 2026.
This proved to be wrong, as the Maoists continued their just fight with renewed energy and vigor.
However, throughout every revolutionary resistance movement there are always those who try to turn back the clock of history and try to betray the righteous struggles of the exploited and oppressed – those who seek to surrender in the face of hardships and abandon their own people to grovel for crumbs at the feet of the ruling class. In India, this is seen with the traitor “Sonu”, who turned in his weapons and surrendered to the fascist Indian regime. Sonu repeats the same old lies about making revolution, claiming that the Maoists ‘ignore legal avenues for change’ or ‘conditions have changed, we no longer need a revolution’ and that the impoverished peasants no longerneeded revolution since India has ‘modernized’. These are lies, as the only way to achieve long-lasting change is through revolution, and the conditions for revolution always exist where there are oppressed and exploited peoples. India has not modernized, and hundreds of millions of peasants continue to suffer. Those who surrender try to justify it with the logic of ‘to make peace is to survive, to fight is to die.’ In reality, to fight is to survive, to make “peace” is to die. The peacetime that is promised by the ruling class is in reality the continuation of the war against the masses, where millions die due to poverty, hunger, disease, and more.
Sonu’s pessimistic outlook is not unique to the Indian revolution, can see these same rotten arguments being made in other countries. In Palestine, the heroic resistance of Gaza is fighting a war of liberation against the genocidal Israeli government propped up by US imperialism. The Israelis try to divide and conquer the Palestinians by making pro-Israel armed groups, trying to split up the Palestinians and separate the resistance from their support among the masses. They made use of traitors just like Sonu to do their dirty work for them. In Nepal, the masses rose up led by a Maoist
Communist Party in People’s War. For 10 years they fought tenaciously, but nearing the victory of the revolution in seizing power, traitors within the Party cited the same reasons Sonu states for his surrender, and laid down their weapons and surrendered to the state. The pessimistic outlook of these traitors stands as the opposite of the revolutionary optimistic outlook of the CPI (m). Let’s take their words as an example:
“Even if Sonu, [and] Satish surrender today and someone else surrenders tomorrow, we promise the people that our Party willnever surrender to the enemy. As long as classes exist, class struggles — in their higher form, People’s Wars — will continue; this is a historical rule. Surrenders cannot change this rule. Therefore, even in temporary setbacks let us advance with great confidence and courage in striving for the progress of the revolutionary movement. The final victory will belong to the people.”
In the face of these difficulties the Indian People’s War has been facing, we must redouble our solidarity with these revolutionaries fighting through the harshest of conditions. The Indian revolution is an integral part of the World Revolution, a shining example to the exploited and oppressed of the world through its affirmation of the truths that political power grows from a barrel of a gun and without a people’s army the people have nothing. The worldwide counter-offensive of imperialism is weakening, and these attacks of theimperialists and their servants are not a sign of strength, but a sign of weakness. The ruling class is lashing out, and they can no longer rule in the old ways, so they are opting to rule through “force” and “strength” to prolong their inevitable decline and fall.
We need to raise the level of support for the People’s Wars being waged in Peru, Turkey, India and the Philippines, with particular emphasis on the Indian People’s War, as it faces a series of concentrated attacks by the fascist Indian government, backed up by US imperialism. The US is providing the attack helicopters, jets, drones, rifles, artillery and more, in an attempt to prop up the fascist Indian state against the People’s War, and as a buffer against their rival in China. The US and Indian militaries conduct joint-exercises, practicing for the next imperialist war. India is designated as a
“Major Defense Partner” of the US, which allows India to have easier access to advanced military technologies. US corporations such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, General Dynamics
create the war machines used in the genocidal campaigns against the Maoists and their supporters.
We call on the workers, students, and revolutionary activists in the United States to take up the international campaign to honor Comrade Basavaraj and support the People’s War in India, especially in these times of heightened attacks on their revolutionary movement. It is our duty to take up and deepen the struggle against US imperialism, to fight alongside the Indian people from within the belly of the beast. By bringing the struggle of the Indian masses to forefront of the minds of the most exploited and oppressed masses in the US, we can carry on our fight against our imperialist government towards the aim of revolution.
LONG LIVE THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA (MAOIST)!
STOP THE WAR AGAINST THE PEOPLE! STOP OPERATION KAGAR!
THE PEOPLE’S WAR WILL INEVITABLY TRIUMPH!
