Fight back against ICE terrorism!

On January 7, 2025, an ICE agent fatally shot an unarmed woman, Renee Nicole Good, in Minneapolis. The woman was acting as a legal observer during an immigration raid carried out by ICE. As Good was turning her car around, the agent fired several shots into through her windshield. The next day, on January 8, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents shot and wounded two people including a Venezuelan immigrant in Portland, Oregon. The coldblooded extrajudicial murder and the shooting of immigrants are expressions of the developing class struggle and conflict between the people and the imperialist state concentrated in the fight against the militarized immigration policing.

Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, there have been at least 28 instances where federal agents have opened fire or brandished a firearm during an immigration enforcement operation. These violent and cowardly attacks against immigrants and progressive activists will only invigorate the combative movement against the fascistic and militarized offensive by ICE. The ultra-reactionary Trump administration has ramped up repression against anti-imperialist and progressive movements, designating “Antifa” a “domestic terrorist organization,” deploying the National Guard and Marines in LA following combative protests against ICE, and using FBI raids to intimidate activists. With the increasing militarization of immigration enforcement and repression against activists, it is no wonder such initiatives have escalated to outright murder.

Minneapolis is home to thousands of Somali people, including immigrants and their descendants, who the Trump administration has labeled as “garbage” and who have been a major target for ICE in the city. The conditions which cause people to migrate from their home countries, including humanitarian crises, destructive wars, and economic ruin, are all the result of the parasitic nature of US imperialism itself. This is true for Somalia and Eastern Africa generally, where US military intervention, predatory financial schemes, and support for corrupt and tyrannical rulers has perpetuated the poverty and destitution of the millions of workers and peasants in the region.

At least one of the people shot in Portland was a Venezuelan immigrant. This is just less than a week after the US’s bombing of Venezuela and capture of its president Nicolás Maduro. The recent escalation is part of a drawn out military strategy aimed at regime change in Venezuela to secure key resources such as oil and a stronger strategic position against the US’s rival, Chinese imperialism. The US’s war of aggression against Maduro and the militarized policing of immigrants go hand and hand. They are both part of the same imperialist offensive against the working people of the world, to secure the US’s grip and intensify the exploitation of the people.

The murder of Renee Good happened just one mile from the site where George Floyd was killed in May 2020, which sparked several months of uprisings across the US. The 2020 uprisings demonstrated the incredible energy and force of the masses mobilized in militant confrontation with the US imperialist state. These events still haunt the minds of the ruling class, and much of the spectacular repressive measures of the Trump administration are preemptive measures in anticipation of another mass uprising. But the people also learned from their experience in 2020, and they carry this experience forward into the struggles against ICE today. Both Minneapolis and Portland were sites of continuous and energetic rebellion throughout 2020. This fact strikes fear in both the ruling imperialist parties. The Republicans ramp up hysteria about “Antifa” while the Democrats insist on “peaceful protest”. But the masses of both cities, and no doubt other cities across the US, will unleash their just and righteous anger with no bounds. And the consistent and revolutionary anti-imperialists will be at their side.

US imperialism is on is falling apart at the seams, necessitating more drastic and erratic measures to hold itself up. The aggression towards Caribbean and Latin American countries, genocidal war in Gaza, military intervention in eastern Africa, and increasing escalation in the Asian Pacific region are all outward expressions of this decline. Within the US, the working class faces the imperialist offensive on multiple fronts of the class struggle, including increased cost of living, decline and stagnation of wages, militarized policing and immigration enforcement, and repression against progressive and anti-imperialist movements. The reactionary Trump administration escalates the repression against the people, and the Democrats try to funnel the righteous anger of the masses into the election cycle while condemning the justified rebellion of the people. Genuine anti-imperialist revolutionaries must continue to develop the struggle against ICE raising the combativeness of the masses and forming class-conscious organizations capable of fighting back.

JUSTICE FOR RENEE NICOLE GOOD!

IT IS RIGHT TO REBEL AGAINST ICE!

DEATH TO IMPERIALISM!
